Thailand is a year-round destination, but each month offers unique festivals and cultural experiences. Wondering where to travel in Thailand this month? This Thailand travel calendar highlights important Thai festivals by month to help you plan your trip.

  1. January – February, with our first festival of the year – Chinese New Year (Nationwide): Lively celebrations fill the streets with red lanterns, lion and dragon dances, and festive food especially in Bangkok’s Chinatown, Phuket, and Nakhon Sawan.
  2. March – April, to see the Astronomical Phenomenon – Phanom Rung Festival: The festival coincides with the solstice, during which you can witness a breathtaking sunrise perfectly aligned through Phanom Rung’s 15 doorways, a stunning display of the Khmer people’s masterful craftsmanship.
  3. April, visit and celebrate with us with our Thai New Year known as Song Kran Festival: Thailand’s most famous festival. Songkran is known for water splashing, paying respect to elders, temple visits, and traditional merit-making to welcome the Thai New Year.
  4. July, the extravagant Candle Festival: The Candle Festival has its origin etched in tradition and religion. It is held during Asalha Bucha and Khao Phansa days—two watershed Buddhist events that mark Buddha’s first sermon and the start of Vassa (sometimes referred to as Buddhist Lent), respectively. The celebration involves colorful parades of majestic and lavish candle wax sculptures accompanied by Thai traditional music and dance.
  5. August, the jazz music festival in Hua Hin: Every year, in Hua Hin, Thailand, a beach community located about 3 hours south of Bangkok, the Hua Hin Jazz Festival takes place. Known as the most developed Jazz Festival in all of the Kingdom of Thailand, the Hua Hin Jazz Festival draws nearly 15,000 spectators each year. In 2000, the festival was relocated to be held directly on the beach by the Hilton Hua Hin Resort CEO and other prominent hoteliers in the region.
  6. September, The season of long boat races: The season of long boat races is finally here. Long boat-racing has always been one of Thailand’s signature sport festivals, held annually during Thai Buddhist Lent period which is around September and October since the river’s tide is highest. The purpose is to display the bond between local Thais and the river and to show moral, courage, and strength of the rowing crew. It has been being held since the old Thai era (approx. 600 year ago.)
